    May 16, 2025 - May 21, 2025 @

    Scott Grundy is once again planning an amazing “Adventure Before Dementia Tour” for 2025. The following is the tentative itinerary:
    Friday, May 16: Drive ~320 miles to Wasilla. Gas stops in Healy & Talkeetna. Rest stops at the DOT wayside just before the Monderosa & Healy. Lunch in the Carlos Creek area or a picnic en route. Remain overnight (RON) at the Alaskan View Motel, 2650 E Parks Hwy., 907-376-6787, ($125+), [email protected]m. ( Note: We’ll stay here again on our return on May 20.) Dinner at the Mat-Su Family restaurant (401 E Parks Hwy., 907-357-7017).

    Sat., May 17: Drive to Homer ~272 miles. Gas at Girdwood & Soldotna. Lunch in Soldotna likely at the St. Elias Brewery (434 Sharkathmi Ave.). Gas up at Fred Meyers nearby after lunch.

    RON at the Ocean Shores Resort, 451 Sterling Hwy., 3500 Crittenden Dr.,907-235-7775. Three rates: Beach Front $169+, Terrace $159+ and Hillside $139+, [email protected]. The owner is out of state and the email is inoperative. Go to their website ( Ocean Shores Hotel Homer AK) and book your room at full price. In the comment section select your room and bed preference and tell them you’re part of the AAMA car show. The rate will be adjusted later. If you plan to stay in Homer to tour Homer or visit Seldovia on Monday, you need to reserve a room for three nights (May 17,18 & 19).

    Let’s join the fun AAMA folks for dinner at AJ’s Oldtown Steakhouse & Tavern at 7:00 PM (120 W Bunnell Ave.) for scrumptious steaks and seafood.

    Sunday, May 18: Attend the Homer Car Show with the AAMA, AK Model A Group, Kaknu Kruzers (Soldotna) plus locals at the Chamber of Commerce parking lot ( 201 Sterling Hwy.). Show runs from 10 AM to 4 PM with an earlier load-in. This show is a major and loved community event! That evening we’ll attend and contribute to the pizza dinner with movie entertainment with the AAMA at the Aspen Suites Hotel at 91 Sterling Hwy. at a time to be announced. Guaranteed fun!

    Monday, May 19: You have the option to:

    • 1) Return to Fairbanks;
    • 2) Or, join those going to Seldovia on the Rainbow tour boat that stops at the Bird Island rookery en route ($89+/senior rate – less if there are enough of us). Just tell them you are part of the car club group: 907-262-4359, rainbowtourshomer@ gmail.com. Quaint Seldovia is a great experience! It has a nice restaurant and some great shops. The boat departs from 4287 Homer Spit Road at 10:30 AM & returns by 5 PM with about 2.5 hours spent in Seldovia;
    • 3) Or, stay in Homer and tour the many attractions in town and sights on the local road system. A very special place – more later. Join our group dinner that evening – any suggestions?

    Tuesday, May 20: Return to Wasilla (~272 miles) and RON again at the Alaskan View Motel again (4650 E Parks Hwy., 907-376-6787). Gas at the same stops as coming down, lunch likely at the Sunrise Inn near the Seward Highway Junction (Roughly 3 hours driving plus stops from Homer.) Possibly visit Mopar Glenn’s nationally famous garage in Palmer that evening. Dinner at the Noisy Goose in Palmer (1890 Glenn Hwy.)

    Wednesday, May 21: Of course, we have two route options to return to Fairbanks either via the Parks or Glenn Highways.

    • Weather permitting, I’d like to add 75 miles to our tour and return via the highly scenic Glenn and Richardson Highways, with breakfast at the Noisy Goose. Gas in Palmer, perhaps Eureka, Glennallen & Delta Jct. Lunch in Delta Junction at the Buffalo Drive-In.
    • If the weather is poor, I’ll return via the Parks Hwy. with breakfast at the Mat- Su Family Restaurant and lunch likely in Healy.

    PLEASE let me know if you are interested and if you have ideas about the trip. Dates are firm, locations are subject to change depending on feedback.
